A bad day at the ranch

Up at 5 o’clcock, did a shortish run into Boston and back which brought my Juneathon total up to 149k.

Went to work and handed my notice in which went better than expected and came home to find my day going downhill big time!

Tonks, my favourite sheep seemed to be having difficulty lambing and on closer inspection I could feel no feet at all, only two heads. Called the vets I usually use only to be told that I’m no longer in the area that they cover “well I haven’t moved” said I, ” no but we’ve changed our boundaries” said they! Several phone calls later and I mangaed to find a vet who would come out but alas when he came he delivered two dead lambs and I have a very poorly Tonks on my hands – he’s given her all sorts of injections and assures me that rest will be the best cure for her and presented me with a bill for £103 so I think I can safely say I’ve had better evenings!

I remember the Dad of the first farmer I worked for saying to me “son, if you have livestock you’ll have dead stock” – never a truer word spoken but it still hurts.

About JovialGnome

Heavily into running 20 years ago with a PB of 1.42.00 in the Shrewsbury Half Marathon in 1985 and 3.48.49 in the Telford Marathon in 1986 - then for some reason I just stopped and have done little or no physical exercise between then and 2 or 3 years ago! I've now moved to Boston in Lincolnshire where I really enjoy looking after my 13 Ryeland ewes and 1 ram and am rejoicing in the distinct lack of hills! I suspect that sub 4 hour marathons are gone forever but hey, I'm having a great time trying!
